Levi jeans – what on earth do they add to the cotton now ?

Hi Folks

I am a bit old to be still buying and wearing Levis, but I like them for DIY jobs and getting my old motorbike out.

Trouble is – I still have a pair that date back to the seventies, which are a tad shoddy, but servicable.

A pair of 501’s I bought in the Levi shop in St Albans last year have simply perished.

No real change in useage or washing procedures, but the thing just disintegrated.

Are they now using cheaper synthetic material ?

A minor, but interesting point when spending £45

Any notions ?

I think they are blending more, I see usually 3-4 different materials in most jeans. I wasn’t around yet in the 70’s, but I don’t think you can ever be too old to wear them. And it’s possible that the cotton being used is genetically modified (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_organism) which may have weakened the natural cotton.
