Why are “inter racial” marriages/relationships a big deal in the US?

Most of my family members are products of inter racial relationships. English, Greek, Aussie, Italian, Indigenous Australian, Sri Lankan. We’re all a bit of a mish mash.

I have never encountered abuse or condemnation for that, or for when i have dated different races.

Just wondering what the big deal is in the US, why it seems to be such an abomination to some. Some people seem to think it’s a result of some kind of identity issue or “wanting to reject one’s blackness/whiteness” or whatever.

Seriously, why is it like that in the US?

Being bi-racial you encounter double the hate for no reason sometimes. You get it from both sides. Your not dark enough for those who like black your not light enough for those who stick to white. It’s challenging and confusing in the dating world too.People always asking what you are or what type of girl you’re into, that’s whack. Nobody really accepts you even when they try to claim you one of their own. It’s so shallow of people living in denial and contradiction, there’s a ‘love by approval’ feeling that some people will hold against you but when you get really wise and call them up on it,some always deny it. That bites!
